Rest, reset and revive
A weekend of respite and relaxation for widowed parents (and their kids)
UPDATE: This retreat was sold out immediately. If you would like to be added to the waiting list or to be first to know of the next family retreat that becomes available, please subscribe to my email list (link at the bottom of this page).
Fancy a weekend of much needed head space and mind & body connection (whilst your children are being taken care of and having adventures)?
I am a solo widowed parent, just like you. I too am shattered and worn out by the non-stop relentlessness of solo parenting. Even going on a break is hard work with no-one to share the load of organising, entertaining, parenting.
This is an opportunity for you to simply be, to let go, to feel at ease.
Space to breathe. To allow tension and trauma a chance to release from the body. To give your mind a break from all the to-do’s.
This is about letting go of responsibility. To be you. To have a chance to be with your grief, a chance to be with others who understand your grief, a chance to release some of the tension of grief.
DATES: Friday 4th to Sunday 6th October 2024
LOCATION: Mount Cook Adventure Centre, Matlock, Derbyshire
HEALING REST FOR YOU, FUN AND ACTIVITIES FOR THE KIDS
I discovered Mount Cook when I attended a school trip in March with my son.
I was really blown away by how amazing the staff were with everyone. It poured with rain the whole time, but it didn’t matter.
Your children will be well looked after by the activity staff here. If your child is neurodivergent and they are aware, they will work with your child’s needs.
Your child will be safe and having fun whilst you get to let go, and just be a human for a few hours without all the responsibilities.
All your meals are prepared, no dishes to clean.
Meals are child friendly rather than anything fancy but as long as you don’t have to prep and clean… woohoo!
THERE IS A BAR!
AND ADULTS TO TALK TO!!!
After a day of indulgent, yet totally essential self-care (with gentle yoga and guided meditation), you get to have a “night out”.
The children are let loose at this stage but I have found (at previous widowed with children events) that they form bonds with each other during the day and are more than happy to have fun without parental involvement so it’s fun for them, fun for us.
Do not expect 5-star accommodation, think more of a hostel vibe – each family has their own room (bunk beds – all the more fun) and bathroom.
WEEKEND AWAY TO MOUNT COOK
I am inviting you to join me and a very small group of people who also know the pain of loss.
A weekend of respite and relaxation for solo widowed parents and an adventure for the kids.
✔️ Children – designed to broaden horizons, develop key skills and create lasting memories.
✔️ Parents – a chance to let go of non stop responsibility, to feel pampered by caring, gentle yoga, and be surrounded by others who get it.
✔️ Modern eco-friendly facilities
✔️ Beautiful countryside location
Kids’ activities TBC after I have all the relevant info regarding the ages and the number of children attending. See the variety of activities available but checking the Mount Cook website.
Meal times are where we all join together – parents and children.

Solo parenting is a hard journey, I wish I had support and places to go to and be amongst other families, to go to a relaxing yoga retreat – just like this weekend. So I’ve created it.
Although I will be providing yoga and relaxation so don’t get the benefit of time off, sharing the gift of healing yoga is the next best thing. I love seeing the difference even just one session can make to the people who attend my yoga groups.
Absolutely no experience of yoga is needed to get involved.
If you want to know anything more about me before you commit to booking, please read my story here.

the details
HOW TO BOOK
There are 5 different options depending on how many children you are taking with you.
Children need to be over 6 to take part in activities. Unfortunately, there are no creche facilities or child-minders available so on this occasion, it will be over 6’s only.
Your payment includes:
✔️ Room for 2 nights
✔️ Breakfast, lunch, dinner for 2 full days (1 x full day, 2 x half days)
✔️ Kids activities all day Saturday
✔️ Adult yoga and meditation all day Saturday
An adult will need to be with each of the children’s groups when those activities are taking place, so if you want to do an activity, this is a way of doing it for free!
I will need adults to take turns to volunteer on Saturday to be with the children during the activities.
DATES: Friday 4th to Sunday 6th October 2024
LOCATION: Mount Cook Adventure Centre, Matlock, Derbyshire
Payment
I must pay the facility in full, they do not take individual payments.
With that in mind, cancellations will be impossible for me to handle but I do know that having children means anything can happen. I would ask that you try and get someone else to take you space if this happens.
I know that this event is proving to be incredibly popular and it will be a first come, first served basis.
I will create a waiting list if needed.
